05/05/09 This Morning with Carter Napier: The counsel meeting this evening is going to be "easy". What Carter called "the calm before the storm". "Budget issues are coming up so this evenings meeting will be light hearted". Tonight the Tree Board of Riverton will be recognized as well as the Rotary Club of Riverton. The Tree Board of Riverton has recently been honored by Governor Freudenthal for most outstanding Tree Board. The Rotary club of Riverton will be recognized for many of the contributions to the city which include their retro work on the bathrooms at Jaycee Park. Making them available year round, Their parks along the Parkway Trail system, and many more contributions to the City of Riverton.
On the business side of things the owners of the property located south of the studios of KTRZ/KWYW at Independence and N 8th W St. would like the city to let go of property that they have near the apartments so the owner can develop and use it. There Will be a catering license discussed for the Sportsman's banquet as well as other items on the docket for this evenings meeting. The meeting is available to the public and can be seen on Cable channel 11 at 7:00 PM.
Updates for the city include the retro work being done on the Alco building. The first tenants are scheduled to move in to the building at the beginning of June. More tenants have plans to move in as well after the work on the building is complete. There will be improvements on the parking lot in early Summer once things start to warm up. The land where the old Hospital used to set will be held by the city until a good price comes up for the sale and more work is done on the land to make it more appealing for a good sale. Another portion of the city that may be on the minds of citizens is the old Lincoln Elementary School. The city is looking at that building for a Recreation Center. The building has not yet been released by the School District but may be retro fitted for a Recreation Center or completing redone by the city.
